Hair Growth Tips to Maximize Your Hair Length!

How would you like to maximize your hair growth? We’re going to talk about hair growth and a few myths that are involved, particularly involving vitamins, so that you can figure out how to have that shiny healthy beautiful hair that you want.

Understanding Hair Growth

In order to maximize your hair growth, there are a few things you need to understand about how your hair grows.

hair growth cyclesYour hair grows in cycles. The hairs on your head are in different phases of the growth cycle. Every hair is not in the same phase at the same time.

Now, if they were, we would shed all our hair at once, kind of like antlers! It would just all fall off all at once and we would be bald for a while. Fortunately for us that’s not how it works, because nobody wants that, right?

How Long Can It Possibly Grow?

The average amount of hair growth that occurs during one month is half an inch. Your total growth cycle lasts on average 3 to 5 years. However, for some people, the growth cycle lasts as long as 10 years! That’s why some of us can only grow hair down to our shoulders and other people can grow hair clear down to their butts!

This does not mean that your hair grows slower if you’re one of the people that can only grow hair to their shoulders. Your hair does not necessarily grow any slower than the person who can grow their hair down to their butt. Your hair still grows at that average pace, but because your growth cycle does not last as long, your hair doesn’t get as long before falling out.

Once your hair passes through the growth phase, it moves through a transition and a resting phase, falls out, and then new hair starts the cycle again. This full cycle repeats itself over and over.

Healthy Hair Habits

long hair growth tipsWe all want beautiful hair. Hair is a huge part of our confidence and how we feel about ourselves. We want to be able to maximize and reach our full potential, and in order to do that we have to maintain healthy hair. So how do we do that?

Take a look at your habits. How are you styling and taking care of your hair? If you’re abusively styling, or if you’re using a lot of chemical/color services, or if you are washing your hair abusively, you are stunting your length potential. Learn how to choose the right shampoo and conditioner. Also make sure you are washing your hair properly!

Hair damage can cause premature hair breakage and fall out. Your hair will never reach its full length potential if it’s falling out or breaking off too soon. It might be growing just as fast as it possibly can but it will not reach its full length potential if you’re not taking care of it.

Take care of your hair damage. There are treatments that you can do to take care of both chemical and mechanical damage. Be careful with your blow dryers and with your irons. Use heat protectant. Be gentle with how you style.

Do Vitamins Cause Hair Growth?

balanced dietThe other part is your health as far as your diet, that’s vitamins come in. Vitamins can supplement and fill gaps in our diet to help us reach the maximum potential. The best way to maximize your potential is to get at the root causes of those things that are missing in your diet.

You need to make sure that you’re eating a well-balanced diet. If you are focusing on your diet being well-balanced and well-rounded you likely don’t even need supplements. There are other medical reasons and exceptions that can affect your growth. Sometimes we don’t get all that we need from our diet even if we are trying to maintain a healthy diet.

Choosing A Good Supplement

If you do decide to take a supplement here are a few important things to look for. Typically people go for the “Hair Skin and nail” vitamins. What these are mainly composed of is biotin. Vitamin H and vitamin B7 are the two things that make up biotin.

An important thing about biotin is no matter how much you’re taking if you’re not getting the full B complex vitamins that you need, biotin won’t even absorb properly in your body. So look for a Biotin supplement that contains other B complex vitamins.

A Word of Caution

You do have to be careful. Often people think if a little will help, a LOT will be even better! There’s not an upper limit on Biotin. Most recommendations are around 30 micrograms from food a day. If you look at a lot of biotin supplements, they will be up at like five thousand micrograms which is well over 10 times the amount that you need. If you are taking one like that, you’re going to have a lot of excess.
Many vitamins such as biotin are water soluble. It is important that you’re drinking enough water so that your body can get rid of the extra if you have a lot of excess. Otherwise, this can possibly lead to other issues. Sometimes people have breakouts for example, but that’s because their body is trying to get rid of the excess that it doesn’t need. So look at the amounts, sometimes they go way overboard.

Will I See Results? Healthy Diet Needs For Hair Growth

healthy hair dietIf you have a biotin deficiency and then of course taking a Biotin supplement is going to help. In that case when you start taking biotin your hair is going to start growing like it should.

Some other things that are really important for the health of your hair and skin and nails are vitamin C, vitamin E, antioxidants, leafy greens, fatty acids, fish oil. If you’re not getting enough nutrients in your body, your hair and your nails won’t grow. Your body will not prioritize hair growth if it’s not getting enough nutrients to maintain other very important functions in your body.

Think about the strength and the health of your hair and your body in general. You can maximize your hair length and the reach your full length potential. Make sure you’re getting the most out of your growth cycles by taking care of your overall health.
