German Pancakes Recipe (Puffy Oven Pancakes)
Love for Breakfast Foods
Breakfast food is something I could eat almost every meal of every day. In fact, I make breakfast for dinner quite often. I do not always have time to make a hot fresh breakfast in the morning. Graciously, these German Pancakes are super easy, delicious, and husband and toddler approved. Sometimes I have heard them called Puffy Oven Pancakes, or Hootenanny Pancakes. Growing up I was lucky enough to have pancakes and waffles pretty often. I hardly ever had cereal. This is probably why I love breakfast foods However, I did not discover puffy oven pancakes until I was on my own. Now, they are easily one of my favorite breakfasts.
Baking From Scratch
Oddly I’m not a huge egg person. Although, I do like french toast and German Pancakes, which are more egg-y than normal pancakes. I also highly prefer pancakes made from scratch over those made with a mix. This is true for all baking that I know of. It just tastes better made from scratch! My family has quite a collection of recipes. I love trying new things though, and am often looking up and trying new recipes. I’m excited to share one of my favorites with you!

The recipe I use for German Pancakes is from a cookbook I highly recommend, called Cooking For Two, by Debbie Harman. I have used this cookbook a ton! We got it as a gift for our wedding. Even though it is meant for recipes for two people, they work just fine for my family of three. Here’s the recipe!
German Pancakes Recipe
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 450 degrees. While your oven is heating up, melt the butter in your 8″ X 8″ cake pan. Make sure you take it out before it burns. You can roll the pan around a bit to spread the butter around the sides and bottom. In a mixing bowl, beat your eggs. Then stir in your milk, flour, and salt. After it is mixed in well, pour the batter over the melted butter. Bake for about 15 minutes, until the edges are golden brown.
Condiments
German pancakes are delicious with syrup and a little bit of powdered sugar. Feel free to use whatever you normally like on your pancakes.
And that’s it, very easy, and super delicious, German Pancakes! Try out this recipe and let me know what you think. Comment with your favorite breakfast food as well!
