5 Healthy Hair Tips (For Wet Hair)
What’s the first thing you do with your hair after a wash? Most of us put it up in a towel. Right?
I was not blessed with an amazing hairline… I have hair horns! Especially post partum (ya feel me) I’ve got major regrowth going on…
So this first tip has been a major game changer for me! Here it is:
Tip #1. When you wrap your towel up, don’t twist your towel tight on the front of your hairline, that’s like “the choke of death” for your hairline! Just be mindful of your hairline. You can twist it up gently, but try to do it a little further back and not enough to yank on your hair. You may want to get a hair towel or t-shirt, something lighter and smaller so you don’t have a heavy towel pulling on your hair!
Tip #2. Don’t scrub dry with the towel, it roughs up your cuticles and creates frizz. Simple as that, just don’t do it.
What DO you want to do? With your towel you want to pat or gently scrunch, or squeeze it out without the towel.
Your hair is so vulnerable when wet! You’ve got to treat it gently.
On to Tip #3. Use a wet hair brush, wide tooth comb, or paddle brush. Brush through before drying, or while you have conditioner in if your hair type makes that necessary to be able to get through it.
Tip #4. Use product before you blow dry. A lot of my clients (and I did at first too) overlook this, they think heat protectant is for irons. But…
Abusive blow drying is one of the biggest culprits for damaged hair!
Heat protectant is obviously meant specifically for heat protection… but really you just NEED some kind of product in it. You don’t want anything heavy. There are some great flexible gels and serums or even mousse out there. Obviously you don’t want to use anything that has a hard hold, because you need to be able to continue brushing through it.
What the product does, is allow the heat to distribute itself across your hair, so it’s not just baking one spot.
Which goes right along with keeping your air moving.
Tip #5. Don’t cook your hair by holding the dryer in one spot.
The older your hair dryer is, the more it tends to lose the ability to distribute heat. If it starts to smell… it may be time for a new one. It could happen as soon as 2 to 3 years.
Let me know in the comments if you want info on choosing a good hair dryer, and I can do a post on that.
Now, we don’t wanna have to spend any more $$ on a hair dyer than necessary, am I right! So, let me give you a little bonus tip.
Bonus tip: Cool down your hair dryer before you put it away, and you’ll actually save it a lot of life! Use the “cool down” button and let it run on low speed until it’s cool again!
Who knew! Mind. Blown. (no pun intended) 😉
